Information Diet make post a personal response. What do you think of the analogy and the issue presented? What do you think might contribute to the problem introduced in the video? Are you guilty of information over-consumption?
The major analogy the video gave was that the more knowledge we have easily available to us the more we indulge in it. Just like food the more unhealthy choices we have readily available to us the more we indulge in eating the wrong things. The problem is that with all the knowledge that we have to process everyday plus the increased indulgence into it, anywhere anytime, can cause widespread problems that are larger such as stress and obesity. Some things that i think contribute to this are the media, internet and social networking. With all this information it makes it hard for the task on hand. I am guilty of information overload because sometimes when i try to accomplish something i catch myself playing my phone, watching TV, and etc.
ReplyDeleteThe analogy of the video was how people in this time period are using information and new technology in a similar way that we treat food, the more we have of it the more we consume/use. The analogy and issue were presented very well in the video, they were able to make the analogy and issue very clear to people. I think that the way our generation is almost completely abandoning the old fashioned way of verbage, letters, etc. for the internet and doing almost eveything electronically. Part of that is because of all the new smart phones, ipod, ipads, tablets, etc. have become something that several people use on a daily basis. I am guilty of information over-consumption, i will use the internet for social networks and games when i could be studing more or working to make myself better at a certain sport or object
ReplyDeleteThe analogy in the video is that using too much technology is like eating too much. Eventually, it will make a negative impact on our health and lives. What might contribute to the problem in the video is that there is so much technology usage in the world, and when more advanced technology comes out, it will only make the users do more at once. I am guilty of information over-consumption because when I'm doing my homework, I get distracted a lot my T.V. and other technology.
ReplyDeleteThe analogy of the video displayed how people in today's society make choices based on the technology that is provided for them, such as phones, TV, and radio. With access of technology at their fingertips, people make wrong decisions when it comes to their health and food and partly it is the persons fault but also the commercials that provide a negative impact. I am guilty of information over-consumption because when I study and do homework I occasionally take a break and go on my phone or watch TV.
ReplyDeleteThe analogy of the video displays that people who are abusing and overusing the technology that they have is like eating too much food. The more food is in front of you, the more likely you are of going to keep eating, which may not always be a healthy choice. Technology is always at a person's disposal. We have smart phones, ipods, laptop, radio, and T.V.'s. Advertisers are becoming more creative with their ads, which keep inciting people. I have fallen victim to technology many times because I often find myself trying to study and do homework, but the temptation of watching the big game or beating your previous high score on your game is so very strong.
ReplyDeleteThe analogy of the video shows the relationship between food and technology by presenting us with the thought that we are products of the food we eat, as much as we are products of the information we consume. Even though, like unhealthy food, technology can be just as unhealthy for us. Technology is all around us and easily accessable via our smart phones, ipads, ipods, laptops, and kindles. The world no longer needs to read a book made of paper when it can be downloaded into a reading device. Thus creating the need for technology to fill every nook of our life. Unhealthy eating is a choice made by consumers promoted by the advertising world. Just as using technology for a simple task as reading a book, sending a text to a friend instead of walking outside to speak in person, or using a social network for sending invites to friends about parties. I have fallen prey to the technlogy world as most of my peers have by doing homework with my phone sitting next to me ready to receive a text from a friend. The T.V. remote sitting within touching distance, so that the volume can be turned up at a moments notice.
ReplyDeleteThe analogy is that just as food itself does not cause obesity, it's the people eating it, in the same way, easily-accessed information is not to be blamed for information over consumption.
ReplyDeleteThe issue presented is people are over consuming information, using the internet, but people are blaming the internet itself instead of blaming themselves.
Something that could contribute to the problem is easier ways to reach technology. When the internet came out on the phone, it became much easier to access it wherever and whenever you wanted, which adds to over consumption.
I believe I'm probably guilty of over consumption because technology is so easy to reach in 2012.
I found this video quite disturbing. The analogy of the video showed how technology and the thirst for knowledge team up to form an Axis of Evil as much as we appreciate these delicacies, they become our enemies . I find the analogy and the issue false and far fetched. Well, if there is a "problem" a few factors that may contribute to the "problem" is access to computers, phones, and television. I find the word "guilty" very negative and offensive. I prefer to use the word... Liable. YES, I am liable of consuming information. I simply love overindulging information that I vomit a wealth of information into others minds which results in a great influence on my peers' minds.
ReplyDeleteThe analagy between information overload and obesity is a great representation of how sick our world is. Just like food has become easier, faster, and less healthy to get over the years so has our information. Today about 600 million people have access to a computer, not to mention smartphones and tablets. Searching, finding, and reading information in just a click is what we're used to and don't give it much thought when in the end it will impact our lives in a negative way. Like many others, I am guilty of consuming an unhealthy amount of information.

ReplyDeleteThe analogy that they presented in this video was a great way for people to connect the dots on how we ARE over abusing food, just like the wide range of technological devices and web information we feed off of. This analogy sums up how America is out of control, they chew off more than they can swallow. What contributes to this problem is that everything is at the touch of your finger tips. The internet is on every device and network. Just like how fast food places are on every corner street. But I don't believe i am, i rarely use the internet. For school is about the only time i need the internet. Otherwise i stay off of it.
ReplyDeleteI find the analogy in this video to be impractical. Over consumption of food provides far worse consequences than going online and "over consuming" knowledge. Taking a trip to McDonalds and ordering a Big Mac is equivalent to reading an article on the Washington Post about a current event? It's true that most people abuse how easy it is to access the Internet but everyone is responsible for how much time they choose to spend online and what sites they decide to go on.
ReplyDeleteThe analogy of overeating to overindulging in technological information is very well thought out. It is demonstrated that there are different types of information, good and bad, just as with food. In addition, people tend to go overboard with the bad and not consume enough good. Part of the problem with the technological overload is that there is a vast array of options of technology that give and excuse to get out of work and be lazy. Kindles allow one to read a book and not turn pages. Cellphones allow one to get weather, news, games, and social media at the touch of a button. Cars can park themselves, and Ipods grant one the ability to listen to music on demand. As much as I try to limit my technology time, (I prefer a hardcover book to a kindle any day!), I have my overindulgences just as everyone else in the world does. I am a sucker for facebook!

DeleteThe analogy presented two major problems with modern society; the overuse of technology along with the overconsumption of food. In this video of the information diet the author makes a connection by saying that we don't really consider the long term affects of what we do. Whether it be mindlessly eating food or absentmindedly overusing technology. I believe that our generation has become accustom to having the newest and best technology within arms reach. Cell phones, computers, televisions, and the like have all been thrusted upon us with bigger and better gadgets rising to the top continuously. I do admit to being an over-consumer of information but I try to balance my use of technology just like I try to keep a balanced diet.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching the information diet video, it put the realization of what technology is really doing. By comparing over eating to over consuming technology. As technology has improved over years, I feel as though people HAVE to have the latest and greatest, even though they already have a perfectly fine version. For example, the iPhone. Almost every device now has internet, feeding our brains with mindless information, but we don't do anything to prevent it, we all go along with it. If a cake was placed in front of a cake-lover, they wouldn't push it away. As if a new iPad 2 was placed in front of a teenager, my guess these days, they would not push it away. By comparing technology to food, many valid similarities can be made. I would say, keep things to the necessities. Why would you over eat? Don't over load on technology.

The Western Imperialists are trying to blame the widespread unhealthiness on a large amount of information. This idea is false, the blame is on the Americans themselves. The increase of information on a glowing screen is because of their morally decadent ways. Their desperate attempts to correct this problem will fail.
ReplyDeleteThe information age has surrounded most of us, and quite a few of us embrace it with open arms. As the video suggest we take in information, false or not, day in and day out. I realize, just as we are what we eat, we think what we are told.

The analogy is comparing overindulging on food and overindulging on information/technology. I feel like teenagers believe every fact they are told, and do not think twice. Whether it be for example that there is only 100 calories in a snack, we do not think how much sodium is in it, or when someone states that somebody is a better candidate and have no information to back it up with, we believe them anyways. But i do believe this is the society we were raised in, so we do not know any better.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion this anology is sad because it is so true. It is comparing the fact that if we have more food we are going to indulge in it just as if we have more information and technology we indluge in it. Most people just believe the information they see without even considering what it actually says or if it is even true. This issue is presenting itself as a bigger problem in young adults and children these days, but just as Madi said this is the society that we are being raised in, it is all we know.
ReplyDeleteThe analogy is showing how the information overload is affecting our eating habits. People go for what is popular or what may be cheaper, they usually dont think about the consequences of what we put into our bodies. I believe that all of us are guilty of this. We tend to follow what others are doing or what we have been taught, depending on how each of us were raised.
ReplyDeleteThe analogy mean we indulge our selves in technology just like we do with junk food. Junk food is is like a trap. Once you stick your hand into a chip bag,you know you will not be setting it down until your stomach is screaming to you that it is full. But some how over loading your body with this unhealthy fatty food stimulates the body and creates happiness. This happiness gets you to continue buying and consuming products are are not beneficial to your health. The internet and technology is just like junk food. Sure technology is filled with education resources, but it is also filled with junk. This junk of the internet feeds you just like junk food. You continue to visit sites that do nothing but take up time and contribute absolutely nothing to your health and wellness. I believe the glamorization of these unhealthy habits is what has led us to over load. People like the cast of Jersey Shore make it look fun and cool to be stupid and unhealthy. All of these things become addicting once they have been pushed upon you enough. I certainly am guilty of over consuming information, but there are many times when i will step back and live a real life, not a cyber one. Facebook is not a priority to me life it is to many others, but it is almost impossible to not get sucked into the popularization of all these products.
ReplyDeleteThe analogy is showing food itself does not cause obesity, it's the people
ReplyDeleteeating it, in the same way, easily-accessed information is not to be blamed for
information over consumption.
The issue presented is people are over
consuming information. People are blaming the internet
itself instead of blaming themselves.
A main contributor to this
problem is easier ways to reach technology, for example when Internet access became available on cell phones.
Like every teenager,I am guilty of over
consumption thanks to the new advancements.
What do you think of the analogy and the issue presented? What do you think might contribute to the problem introduced in the video? Are you guilty of information over-consumption?
ReplyDeleteIn the analogy, it shows food is not the reason why people become obese. Its the people who are consuming the food. People use food to fill the emptiness inside or when they are upset or bored. Its used to fill emotion.
The issue that is the people over consuming information. People are blaming internet or others instead of themselves, which is not right.
Internet or even technology can be accessed anywhere, even is cell phones. Some are guilty for consumption, but as for me, I go both ways for being guilty. I am guilty for so much consumption but i am also not because the more this world advances, the more people can advance in life. If it wasnt for that then, not alot of people whould have a job.

The Analogy in this video was clearly that information, like food, can be overconsumed. Information and poor choices in food are becoming ever more present and we must make good choices or else we can be consumed by our own temptations. I think the best way to solve this problem would be to teach people how to tell what information is harmful and what information is helpful. I would say I'm also guily of informtation overload with my x-box, youtube, and ipod touch. If I think about it I could name multiple times where I have used these devices and made poor decisions.

ReplyDeleteThis is like an overly done, boring prezi that tells us the stright up facts on that the only reason we get fat is because one is too idiotic to understand the concept of fat in foods. Overconsuption is a growing problem in todays society.

After watching the video, it enlightened me on the habits of our society. It shows that people get distracted by today's technolgy. Such as when kid's are suppose to be doing their homework, they'll be texting or on facebook. Also, kids get in the habits of eating bad food instead of having a steady, healthy diet. Since, you posted this video.. are you calling all of us fat?
ReplyDeleteI think the analogy is correct, that there is an abundance of information because of the easy ways we are able to obtain it, and that society is brought into all of it. The accessibility of information only contributes to the problem. I believe I am guilty of information over-consumption.

I think that the analogy is good and correct and this a an on going issue of us not being informed on what we are eating or what is in what we are eating. I am sometime guilty of over consumption but it really depends on the lifestyle you are living, with you are rushed you are more willing to have an unhealthy diet.
ReplyDelete-Justine Ellis
I think the analogy is accurate because our society has an over-consumption issue with not only food, but information. It's not just the food people are eating that is making them obese, it's the people. The same can go for information overload. Even though information is so easy to obtain (cell phones, computers, Ipads), the people are to blame. People are blaming the internet for some of their problems, when they really should be blaming themselves. People can pick up bad habits with obtaining information, such as spending their whole lives on Facebook, the same way people can obtain bad eating habits, such as indulging in Twinkies. No one looks into the long-term affects. Suppose there was a plate of cookies in front of an obese child and a new Iphone in front of a spoiled teenager, they would both not refuse. With the new technological advances in our society, I am guilty of over-consuming information.
